How to position cameras on the site map

The Sitemap tab shows your site on a map with a pin for each camera. Placing your cameras on it gives everyone an instant picture of where each camera is and, on the web app, which way it points. This guide shows you how to place them.

Before you start

• Positioning cameras is a project administrator task.
• The cameras you want to place should already be on the project (they appear on the Media tab).

Place a camera

Open the project and select the Sitemap tab. Cameras that haven't been placed yet appear in a drawer on the side.

1. Enter edit mode (select Set up the first time, or the edit toggle).
2. From the unplaced drawer, choose a camera and set its location by dragging its pin to where the camera actually is on the map.
3. Adjust the pin's heading (which way it faces) and its field-of-view cone so the map reflects what the camera sees.
4. Select Save to keep your changes, or Cancel to discard them.

Done

Your cameras appear on the site map in their real positions. Anyone with access to the project can now see the layout of the site at a glance.

Good to know

• The pin's position comes from where you drop it on the map, so place it where the camera physically is for the map to be useful.
• On the web app you can also set each camera's heading and field of view, which shows the direction it is pointing. This is helpful on busy sites with several cameras.
• Placing a camera on the site map is separate from its address in the feed's General settings, though both describe where the camera is.

Common questions

A camera isn't on the map. Why? It probably hasn't been placed yet. Unplaced cameras wait in the drawer (web) or behind the placement prompt (mobile) until you position them.

Can I move a camera after placing it? Yes. Enter edit mode again and drag the pin to its new position, then save.
