How projects work
What a project is, the tabs and tools inside it, and who can see each part.
A project is a site you are monitoring. It holds the cameras on that site, their images, a site map, and reports. When you open a project you are working inside that site, and everything you see belongs to it. This guide explains the parts of a project so you can find your way around.
Why it matters
Almost everything in Sentinel OS happens inside a project. Knowing what each tab and tool does means you can go straight to the site map, the history, or the settings without hunting.
Tabs inside a project
Every project has the same set of tabs across the top:
- Media — a card for each camera on the site. This is the way in to a camera's images, and the default tab when you open a project.
- Sitemap — a map of the site with each camera pinned in place.
- Reports — timelapse videos for the project.
Tools
Alongside the tabs are a few tools:
- Site History — scrub back through everything the site's cameras have captured, on any day.
- Ops Mode — put the site's cameras on a screen as a live wallboard (web app).
- Settings — manage the project's details, its feeds, and its people (project administrators).
On the web app, the tabs and tools sit in the project header, which stays in place as you move between tabs.
Who sees what
- Media, Sitemap, and Reports are visible to everyone on the project.
- Site History is available to project administrators and stakeholders.
- Settings is for project administrators only.
Org Admins have administrator access across every project.
Good to know
- A camera (feed) can belong to more than one project, so the same camera can appear on several sites.
- The Media tab is the default landing tab, but your account can be set to open a different tab first.
- Leaving a project (going back to Projects) doesn't change anything; project context simply follows you while you are inside one.
Common questions
What's the difference between Media and the gallery? The Media tab lists the cameras on a site. Opening a camera from it takes you into that camera's gallery of images.
Why can't I see Settings? Settings is for project administrators. If you have viewing access, you won't see it.
