Understanding feeds and cameras

In Sentinel OS, a feed is a camera's presence in the platform. Each physical camera on your site appears as one feed, so "feed" and "camera" mean the same thing throughout the app and this Help Centre. Understanding how a feed is organised makes everything else, from schedules to images, easier to find.

Why it matters

A feed is more than a stream of images. It carries the camera's name and location, its capture and upload schedules, how its photos are handled, and which projects it belongs to. Knowing where each of those lives means you can go straight to the setting you need instead of hunting for it.

How a feed is organised

A feed can belong to one or more projects (sites), and everything about the feed itself is managed from its own set of sections.

On the web app, open a feed and you get a row of sections along the top:

• General — the feed's name, address, and timezone.
• Projects — which projects this feed is linked to.
• Schedule — when the camera captures, uploads, and livestreams.
• Media Handling — photo file types, watermarks, and photo forwarding.
• Controller Settings — battery, storage, and check-in (coming soon).
• Diagnostics — camera health and logs (coming soon on web).

Key concepts

One camera, one feed

Each camera you own is one feed. When you see "feed" in a schedule screen or "camera" on the site map, they refer to the same device.

Feeds and projects

A feed lives in your organisation and can be linked to one or more projects. Adding a feed to a project makes it visible to people on that project; removing it from a project leaves the feed in your organisation, it just stops appearing on that site.

Who manages a feed

Managing a feed's settings is an administrator task. People with viewing access to a project can see the feed's images without seeing its settings.

Good to know

• A feed keeps its images and history even if you move it between projects.
• Controller Settings (and Diagnostics on the web app) are on the way. On mobile, Diagnostics is already available for a camera's health and logs.

Common questions

Is a feed the same as a camera? Yes. A feed is how a camera appears in Sentinel OS. One camera equals one feed.

Can one feed be in more than one project? Yes. A feed can be linked to several projects at once, and appears on each.

Who can change a feed's settings? Administrators. Other roles can view a feed's images through a project but not edit its settings.
